MULTIPLE cars have been stolen and set alight across Ballarat overnight as the city's growing car theft problem shows no signs of abating.

A car was found burning at the rear of a property in Willow Grove in Wendouree just after 5am. A witness told The Courier they heard an explosion just after 5am and when they went to investigate, found a car on fire in a paddock.
"It woke us up, it was like someone had set of a firework," the witness said.
Meanwhile, another car was found burned out near the corner of Humffray and Elsworth streets in Mount Pleasant just before 1am.
More than 30 cars have now been set alight this year, as police grapple with an epidemic around the region.
