Glenn Wood appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Tuesday for sentencing, charged with intentionally exposing his genitals in a public place on January 27 last year.

The female victim, a university student in her 20s, previously told the court she was running to her place of work, when Wood lifted his shorts and exposed his testicles on a street in Mount Clear.

The guilty man's defence lawyer, James Portelli, argued for an adjourned undertaking but Magistrate Gregory Robinson said this was like a good behaviour bond and not in range because Wood had shown "no remorse" and had not immediately pleaded guilty to the charge.

"You have not demonstrated any remorse for your conduct, which for that young girl jogging to work would have been a disgusting experience, for her to have a dirty old man expose himself to her," he said.

"This does seem to be behaviour engaged with almost exclusively by men towards females, any sentence ... must deter men from conducting themselves in this way, to protect young women in the community.

"You are a man of some age, you have no prior history for this offending. That speaks in your favour."

Mr Portelli said Wood had character references from neighbours, strong family support and had lived at his Mount Clear property for 35 years without incident.

He said the exposure was a single occasion and was not accompanied with any "lewd or derogatory comments".

Wood was convicted and fined $2500.
