Results from a survey of more than 80,000 international students in 2018 ranked Australia equal to or above 17 other countries for international student satisfaction, including the US, Canada, UK and New Zealand.
The positive results for international student satisfaction across Australia come after Federation University revealed an increase in the number of international students enrolled at the university this year.
Our international student numbers have more than doubled in the past year and we expect this growth to continue as our reputation grows internationally.
- Professor Helen Bartlett, Federation University
Data shows the number of international students studying at Federation University more than doubled in 2019 compared to the previous year.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett said the university expected this growth to continue as its reputation grows internationally.
According to the university, 815 international students are studying at the Mount Helen campus this year.
Data shows living on campus is popular for both domestic and international students, with up to 500 students living on campus in Ballarat this year.
Professor Bartlett said Federation University's international students were supported to succeed.
"At Federation University, international students can get a world-class education and research opportunities in a regional community that is welcoming and more affordable than a major city," she said.
"We have a Multicultural Student Services team that supports our international students with academic and social programs to make sure they get the most out of their studies and their experience living in Australia."
2018 Australian Government International Student Survey results show the top five reasons for students deciding to study in Australia are the quality of teaching, personal safety and security, and the reputations of Australia's education system, qualifications, and education providers.
International education exports are worth $35.7 billion to the Australian economy, including flow-on effects from the travel, goods and services used by international students and their families. The sector supports over 240,000 Australian jobs.
