The fire has destroyed about 30 per cent of the internal rooms of the house, but the single-storey brick structure has remained standing and the remainder of the house is believed to have suffered only minor damage.
The occupant of the home was able to get out safely and was assessed by ambulance paramedics for shock. She was being cared for by a neighbour.
At this stage the cause of the blaze remains unclear with early reports suggesting it may have either started in the kitchen or the roof.
Lucas Fire Brigade Senior Station Officer Ben Reynolds said crews from all around the district brought the fire under control.
He said investigations would be carried out to the cause.
