In what was an incredibly close match-up between the Vikings and Murray United at Morshead Park, Sebastopol fell to their higher ranked opponent after a penalty goal in the 89th minute of the game.
Going into the round four game, Vikings coach Michael Goodwin said his team had "nothing to lose" against their NPLV2 competition.
The game was Sebastopol's third in the competition while Murray United was yet to play a game in the FFA Cup.
The game opened with both teams looking to capitalise on early opportunities, however solid work from both defenses held strong.
The dam finally burst for Sebastopol in the 27th minute after Murray United striker Thomas Youngs found the back of the net.
Youngs has been putting together a stellar season in the NPL2 East Victoria competition, leading the league with seven goals in nine games. Sebastopol didn't trail for long as a soft left foot strike from Jal Tuany leveled the scored at 1-1 in the 35th minute.
The Vikings were back in the thick of it shortly after half-time as they conceded a penalty kick in the 56th minute.
Some great goalkeeping from Jayden Bellears-Price and the help of the crossbar ensured Youngs did not register his second goal and kept the scores level.
After a back-and-forth second half, it looked like regulation would not be enough to break the tie before Murray United were awarded a second penalty in the 89th minute.
Murray United's Sean Pye was able to capitalise on the golden opportunity and effectively ended the game with his successful shot from the penalty spot.
The Vikings next game will be at home against Upfield SC in the Football Victoria men's state league 3 north-west competition on Saturday at 3pm. Sebastopol sits in fifth place in the competition with two wins and two losses while Upfield is in third with three wins from their first four games.
