The not-for-profit group of about 35 volunteers, who run the heritage railway, had a record number of passengers travelling on their lovingly restored heritage rail motor trains between Daylesford and Bullarto in the past year.
The passionate volunteers last year unveiled their fastidious restoration of a blue-and-gold Victorian Railways 'Walker' rail car that provided service to the Daylesford community until the branch line was closed in 1978.
Additionally, the volunteers constructed a mutually beneficial stopping platform outside Passing Clouds Winery at Musk.
More recently, the group received a grant to restore some of its railway tracks in the Bullarto station precinct and at Easter, volunteers ferried 318 passengers on trolleys from Daylesford to Bullarto and back to raise $1785 for the Good Friday Appeal.
Like any not-for-profit, the group is always looking for more volunteers to grow what it does and is calling for volunteers who can offer their building, painting, welding, metalwork or mechanical skills or those with gardening, maintenance sales or catering experience to put up their hands.
There are also opportunities to undertake training in rail safety and crew operations.
Those who care about the maintenance of local history and the grounds and environment of the area through which the rail operates are likely to enjoy getting involved with this group.
An open day for prospective volunteers will be hosted on Saturday, May 4 at Daylesford Railway Station from 10am.
For further information on the day and to RSVP, contact Daylesford Spa Country Railway's Manager of Volunteers Ross Bullock on ross.bullock@dscr.com.au or on 0428 826 920.
