The 22-year-old from Kingston has won four of her 11 singles matches so far this year and has failed to surpass the round of 16 on the ITF World Tennis Tour circuit.
Hives will look to turn her recent form around in Charlottesville, Virginia in the United States where she will take on 388th ranked American Cori Gauff.
The 15-year-old Gauff is a former junior Grand Slam winner, taking out top spot at the 2018 French Open.
The match will be played on clay. Hives' doubles form has been very good so far this year, winning the Claro Open Colsanitas 2019 WTA doubles with fellow Australian Astra Sharma.
