Kirsten Lowe-Jabornik took the reigns last week after being appointed to the role on Friday. She became the first woman in the club's history to step into the position after following on from long-time head coach Morgan Murphy.

Boasting a decorated background in both swimming and coaching, Lowe-Jabornik has held coaching roles in Geelong and at St Peters Western Swimming Club in Brisbane.

She's also spent time at the Queensland Academy of Sport and holds a PHD in Sports Science, specialising in injury prevention as well as strength and conditioning.

After taking time off coaching to focus on her family, Lowe-Jabornik told The Courier the Ballarat coaching job presented a good opportunity.

"Swimming was a big part of my life and I loved it growing up and I wanted to be part of the sport and continue to provide opportunities for kids coming through," she said.

"Ballarat Swimming Club has a long history, I competed against them a lot as a swimmer in Geelong, and I'd love to take the great history that the club has got and add my own experience and bring a new era to the club."

Having spent time in both country and metropolitan swimming clubs, Lowe-Jabornik said she enjoys the community feel that country clubs foster.

She said she wants to instill a culture within the club that promotes swimming as a lifelong sport.

"Kids often retire at 17 and 18 so I'd love to create a club that promotes the longevity of the sport," she said.

As one of only a few female senior swimming coaches to be named in Victoria, Lowe-Jabornik said she's excited to be a role model for future swimmers. She praised the current talent within the club saying it has a bright future.

"They've got very talented kids from what I've heard with a lot of young kids coming through, and I'm really excited to be involved with their development," she said.
