Varietyville's latest show Art Vs. Entertainment showcases a conflict between the increasingly absurd, artistic sensibilities of the Dandyman and the naturally entertaining skew of on-stage partner Foxy Moron.
They will perform in Ballarat on Saturday night at The Cabaret Club, situated next to the Mill Market just off the Western Freeway.
Ballarat-born performer Daniel 'Dandyman' Oldaker called the colourful variety show a "combination of circus comedy and magic".
"Every show, there's always some little moment, something that's like 'wow'," he said.
"This is the best of all we've created of years of touring the world, it's a healthy mix of everything that anyone would love to watch."
Varietyville recently performed a sell-out run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) in The Famous Spiegeltent.
Daniel said when it comes to patronage at variety performances, he'd "like to think it's getting stronger", but they did "feel the push of Netflix".
"There's more people at MICF than ever before, and same the Adelaide and Perth Fringe fesitvals," he said. "It's something we (humans) need, there's only a certain amount of Facebooking you can do before you need to go out, see friends and have some fun."
Learning much of his acrobatic craft at circus school at age 19, Daniel has spent laudable time busking in the Bridge Mall, and chalks up his career beginnings to Ballarat's creatives living outside the ordinary.
"I think it was a quest to be different. I used to wall down the mall in funny clothes, just to not be the same," he said.
"Having street theatre as a way of making money, I was juggling jobs at 18, and I could make more money by putting at hat out in the mall.
"There's that quirky, underground edge to Ballarat, so I found the pockets and the people that allowed me to flourish at that point in my life."
Show starts 8.30pm, tickets $23 online or $28 at the door. More information at thecabaretclub.com.au.
