According to the Powercor website, 130 customers remain without power in Lake Wendouree and just 17 in Ballarat Central.
The estimated restoration time is 6pm.
UPDATE 1.56pm: Power remains out across central Ballarat with Powercor still estimating a return to normal operations by 4.30pm.
Traffic lights remain down at some of Ballarat's busiest intersections through the CBD including Doveton Street at intersections including Mair Street, Sturt Street and Dana Street
There are a number of lights which are also out along Sturt Street including Drummond Street and Armstrong Street intersections.
However, power remains at Ripon Street and throughout Alfredton, while Wendouree is also largely unaffected. The lights are also working on Creswick Road at Macarthur Street.
Many businesses along Sturt Street have closed west of Lydiard Street. The Regent Cinema is closed, however, the George Hotel next door remains open.
Update, 1.39pm: Powercor has an estimated restoration time of 4.30pm across Ballarat listed on its website.
It says 1011 houses or businesses in Ballarat Central, 679 in Lake Wendouree, 44 in Wendouree and one poor house or business in Soldiers Hill are affected.
The cause remains under investigation.
Update, 12.53pm: Ballarat police have been called into action to help direct traffic as the power outage affected lights across the CBD.
Multiple businesses have also been affected as the blackout hit shortly after noon affecting many outlets during the busy lunch hour.
Earlier: Central Ballarat was hit with the widespread power outage that has so far affecting almost 1700 customers.
Powercor reported a fault in Norman Street, Wendouree, which affected 1011 customers in Ballarat Central, 679 in Lake Wendouree and one in Soldiers Hill.
The cause of the blackout was not immediately known and under investigation.
Power is not expected to be restored until 4.30pm.
