The Lukich brothers led Waubra to a defining victory on Saturday against Rokewood-Corindhap.
Geordie and James gave the grunt and leadership necessary to stifle great improvers the Grasshoppers with a 30-point winning margin.
James kicked five majors and Geordie returned for his first match of the season rucking and roving.
The Kangaroos and the Grasshoppers were the only undefeated sides in the Central Highlands Football League coming into the clash and interest centred on the new challengers and how they stacked up against a heavyweight team like Waubra.
The first quarter was neck-and-neck with Waubra taking a narrow five-point lead and the second saw the Grasshoppers square the score in the first couple of minutes.
But single-handedly James Lukich stamped his authority on the match with three rapid-fire goals in three minutes.
With a 20-point margin going into the last half it seemed that Waubra was going to steamroll Rokewood-Corindhap.
But goals from Grasshoppers Jordan Grant, Keegan Powell, Ben Harris and Jake Carr got them just 14 points adrift.
It was heartbreaking when Waubra swept through for a last-gasp pair of goals to lead by 26 with only the final term to go.
The Kangaroos' relentless pressure saw James Lukich and Simon Clifton stretch the margin to 30 points before the siren.
The Grasshoppers could hold their heads high at the end with even Waubra coach Matt James conceding Rokewood-Corindhap "have improved a lot".
"They're a good young side. They play a similar style to us. They won a lot of the footy early, particularly that first quarter, and were probably unlucky not to be in front really," he said.
Rokewood-Corindhap joint-coach Shaune Moloney said it was "a good test for the team to see where we're at".
"Waubra is the benchmark and they showed it today. Waubra puts you under enormous pressure and it's harder to execute your skills and make good decisions," he said.
The feeling in the Grasshoppers' room after the match was upbeat with one club official saying that the players are just getting started.
The unbeaten Waubra is now a game clear at the top of the ladder.

Daylesford's breakthrough victory for season 2019 was marred by injuries to two of its most important players on Saturday.
The Bulldogs broke through to beat Ballan, but lost Seb Walsh and Michael Cummings during a horror one-minute period in the third term.
Daylesford coach Zac Tisdale said there were fears Walsh had ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament, while Cummings has injured a hamstring.
Tisdale said Walsh, who was stretchered from the ground after landing awkwardly, would have scans this week to determine the extent of the injury.
X-rays have already cleared him of any breaks.
Cummings has a long history of soft tissue injuries and is likely to be given until after the Queen's birthday long weekend break to recover from his latest setback.
Tisdale admitted Cummings, who was recruited back to the club this season, was carrying a sore hamstring heading into the game.
Daylesford's 27-point win was its first of the campaign and dealt Ballan its second-straight defeat.
Cameron Ralph was named best for the Bulldogs, while Darren Tanti stood out for the Blues.
