English second XI player Sam Burgess will touch down in Ballarat this September and by all accounts, is excited to make his Aussie debut.
The Englishman has been in scintillating form for Kent County Cricket Club of late, having notched nearly 350 runs in his past five sessions.
President of the Ballarat-Redan Cricket Club Paul Aikman said Burgess would provide depth to the club as a top-order batsman and off-spin bowler.
"It will do two things, it will help bolster our ability, but it will also help with our young list," he said.
"We've got a lot of kids between the ages of seventeen and twenty-one who need someone like Sam to guide them and teach them the right way to play good cricket, and he'll compliment the guys we already have in place."
Aikman said Burgess would help with the development of the senior team which includes a number of junior top end players.
He will join a number of other new additions to the club such as Chris Egan and former player Billy Jones. Fast bowler Nathan Patrikos is also set to return following a back injury.
Aikman said the additions would consolidate the club's batting order which has struggled from a lack of experience.
"Some of the younger guys had to bat higher than what we wanted, so having a couple of these other guys come in will give us more depth," he said.
Aikman describes the second XI county cricket competition as a similar standard to that of the Victorian second XI. He said Burgess made a century last weekend in a 50 over match and rescued his team with a knock of 120 the week before.
"He's in good form at the moment and we're looking for that to continue when he arrives in Australia in September," he said.
