Jessie Newman appeared by video link at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday for a mention.
The Black Hill man is charged with six offences, including assaulting an emergency service worker, in Ballarat on April 9.
He was on bail at the time of the alleged offending.
Defence lawyer Scott Belcher told the court his client would make a second bail application on new facts and circumstances after he was denied bail on April 11.
He said Newman's mother and employer would give sworn evidence to support his stable accommodation and full-time work.
Mr Belcher said the issue of whether or not a minimum six-month jail term should be applied for assaulting an off duty police officer would be argued during the impending bail application.
The argument will centre around whether the off-duty police officer identified himself as a police officer or a civilian during the incident, the court was told.
Police allege an intoxicated Newman punched the police officer 10 times after being a passenger in a car crash at the Albert and Grant streets roundabout at 3.10pm on April 9.
Newman told police after his arrest the next day he had consumed 12 vodka cruisers before the crash.
A date has not yet been set for the second bail application, but a contested mention will be held on July 4.
Newman was remanded in custody until then.
