All-rounder Maxwell is back in the green and gold as Australia prepares for three warm-up matches against a New Zealand XI in Brisbane starting on Monday.

He will hope to find some batting touch before Australia's World Cup campaign starts in England next month after returning from a lean month-long stint with county outfit Lancashire.

Maxwell may have been forgiven for ruing his decision to skip the IPL for county duty, managing a top score of just 35 in seven innings.

However, Maxwell had no complaints after getting to know what to expect from UK decks ahead of the World Cup while also reinvigorating his bowling.

He snared a maiden five wicket haul in his sole County Championship game while nabbing eight scalps with his off-spin in six one-day games for Lancashire.

Maxwell backed captain Aaron Finch's recent call that spin would play a huge role in the World Cup and hoped to make a difference with the ball, along with the bat in England.

"Certainly the bowling part I didn't expect," Maxwell said of his off-spin success in the UK.

"I was able to get a lot of overs and find a rhythm I probably haven't had for a while.

"I think with myself and Marcus Stoinis able to be a fifth or sixth bowler ... to have those extra overs is really important for Aaron to have at his disposal.

"If we can be relied on to bowl key overs, even if it's in the Powerplay or at the end, that's going to be really important."

Still, it is with the bat that the explosive Maxwell hopes to make his biggest impact.

Maxwell was in sublime touch in away limited overs series against India and Pakistan, capping it with ODI scores of 71, 98 and 70 in the UAE while rotating from three to six in the batting order.

He expects to float around the order again in England depending on match situations, just like he did in 2015 when he helped Australia win a fifth World Cup.

"It was probably only after the Dubai series where I felt really comfortable with where my game was at," Maxwell said.

"I was able to play three really consistent innings, and all completely different - I think that adaptability and consistency is something that Australian cricket and the fans have always really wanted from me.

"It was something that I did reasonably well in 2015, so we're sort of trying to emulate that in this World Cup."
