The junior school council wrote to other Ballarat schools asking them to join their crazy hair day on May 9 - and Pleasant Street, Warrenheip, Bungaree, Caledonian, Creswick, Delacombe and St Thomas More primary schools answered the call with their pupils all sporting crazy hair on Thursday.
Next year they hope even more schools will get on board to support the cause.
"If our little school can raise $850, imagine what all our schools can do together. It would be great to see it grow so we can really support our Ballarat research facility. That support comes directly back to our community, said teacher Deanna Osman.
While the amount raised for cancer research across the city is yet to be totalled, the 96 children at Macarthur Street raised an impressive $850.
There were wild and crazy hairstyles across the city.
"We had a range of styles. We had one boy who had his hair cut specifically to make it a bit crazy, we had some big hair, quite a few wigs, we had a girl with a bottle in her hair and a palm tree - a lot of children went to a lot of effort," Ms Osman said.
Staff member Sylvia Ganosis also had her long hair cropped short as children watched on.
"FECRI is an easy cause to support because I'm not sure if there would be a family who hasn't been touched in some way by cancer. It's close to a lot of people's hearts."
