UPDATE, 6.30pm: Tow trucks are currently removing a small yellow sedan and a larger white SUV from the scene, while fire crews deal with the washaway on Sturt Street.
Police have managed to keep one lane of traffic clear for westbound evening traffic.
The intersection is one of the notorious six between Dawson and Pleasant streets that have seen multiple crashes over the last few years and are planned to be upgraded to traffic lights, turn only or removing the median passage.
When VicRoads plans are implemented the intersection at Errard Street will allow double U-turns only.
EARLIER: Emergency workers are on the scene of a multiple-vehicle crash on Sturt Street.
The crash happened on the corner of Sturt and Errard streets outside Country Roasts about 5.35pm.
An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were assessing the people involved.
