The Ballarat Sports and Events Centre project, under Nicholson Construction, is set to open in early July.
Basketball Ballarat, which manages the venue, expects a boom in indoor sport numbers for the new space.
Event and match planning has been made in working closely with community partners Wendouree Netball Association, Ballarat Badminton, Volleyball Ballarat, Federation University and University of the Third Age.
Basketball Ballarat chief executive Peter Eddy said the six-court development would ensure better basketball match times, eliminating 10.10pm starts and confining Saturday play between 9am and 5pm.
Mr Eddy said there was also scope to expand indoor offerings into sports like Ultimate or touch football for winter home base in the 1500-square metre community court arena.
Three community courts are awaiting final fit-outs, like rings and a final floor seal and polish.
Most of the work is focused on the showcourt arena where the two side courts are complete and the centre court floorboards will be laid once retractable seating stands are finished. The retractable stands will seat 2700 fans with an extra 300 fixed seats at the showcourt's end.
Painting and tiles are almost finished inside the stadium, fittings for offices and the foyer are underway and digital and WiFi connections are in planning.
The $24 million BSEC stadium has now been linked from its foyer to the existing two-court facility on site.
A further $5 million promised from the state government in last year's election will allow for a uniform skin to extend on the existing stadium. This funding will also provide for four purpose-made three-on-three outdoor basketball courts and a gym for the community and elite training programs.
Ballarat Miners and Rush will move their games to the new showcourt next NBL1 season, playing out their current campaign in the Minerdome.
