Ms King scored a more than four percent swing in her favour, twice the Victorian average, taking the Federal seat of Ballarat into the very safe seat territory.
It will also make her the longest serving member in the seat's history but unfortunately for her, only six of her possible 21 years in the role will have been as part of the government.
So the big questions remain, how the popular Labor member can use her position in Canberra to leverage more funding attention on the region and whether, given its safe status, the LNP will give the seat even less electoral attention and support.
Labor were not backward with promises this election, with Her Majesty's, the airport upgrade, the BIRCH centre and Sovereign Hill among major pledges that amounted to a $45 million plus offering. The Liberal Party could only match them on Sovereign Hill.
So Ballarat residents will be watching carefully on how these important projects can be delivered for the city.
The Courier will keep you informed, whatever the outcome.
