Victoria Police have confirmed human remains that were found under a bridge in Altona North on May 9, are those of Ms Farrell.
The fresh discovery follows her grisly murder in February, when badly burnt parts of her body were also found in Gippsland.
The newly-returned forensic results come more than three months after parts of her body were also found near Sale.
Siblings Shaye Kotaiu, 22, and Kieahn Kotiau, 19, have since been charged over Tamara's death.
They have briefly appeared in court to date and remain in custody.
Victoria Police released the following statement today:
"Forensic testing on human remains located near a creek in Altona North on 6 May has now been completed.
Police can confirm the remains belong to 31-year-old Canadian (near Ballarat) woman Tamara Farrell.
Tamara disappeared from her home on 17 February and her body was located two days later in Nambrok, near Sale.
A 22-year-old Altona man was charged with one count of murder and a 19-year-old Altona woman was charged with one count of accessory to murder.
As this matter is still before the court it would be inappropriate to make any further comment."
At the time of Ms Farrell's death, there was a public outpouring of grief in Ballarat.
She had been an anti-violence campaigner online.
Deputy mayor Jim Rinaldi fought back tears as he described her as a "warm, generous and extraordinary" woman, while Ballarat Police Superintendent Jenny Wilson lamented violence against women.
"To me this really highlights the issues surrounding violence against women," said Superintendent Wilson at the time.
"It's really a message about treating each other with dignity and respect."
