The RSPCA is waiving adoption fees for adult cats for the next three days in a bid to find more cats a loving new home.Following successful fee waiver programs in recent years, the animal welfare organisation will again waive all adoption fees for adult cats today, tomorrow and Sunday.The Ballarat RSPCA currently has 24 cats waiting for a new owner this weekend.RSPCA manager of animal shelters Allie Jalbert said that by running the program again, it cemented the RSPCA’s commitment to tackle cat welfare problems.“We have as many as 500,000 homeless cats roughing it on the streets in Victoria which has unfortunately devalued the important role cats play as a family member in many Victorians lives,” she said.“We want to remind the community that the love and companionship experienced from cat ownership is priceless and hope to ignite as many lifetime bonds between owners and cats as possible.”All RSPCA cats are microchipped to help ensure that they are able to be reunited with their owners if they go missing, and are also desexed. Prospective new owners will also be taken through the adoption process by expert staff to ensure the right cat can be matched with the right owner. “By investing in the relationship between owners and cats this initiative aims to break the cycle of homelessness that so many of these beautiful creatures experience,” Ms Jalbert said.“The RSPCA is welcoming Victorians with open arms to visit one of our adoption centres and get to know our feline friends.
