Jason Greishan Crawford was arrested after police raided his Mair Street home last Wednesday. He fronted the Ballarat Magistrates Court on the same day but did not apply for bail.
On Wednesday Crawford returned to court to apply for bail but his reasons for release were not strong enough and he was remanded in custody until July.
The court was told Crawford was on a 24-month community corrections order for offences including a carjacking, when he allegedly reoffended.
Police allege Crawford and two other males attended Stockland Wendouree car wash on May 10 where they tried to gain entry to a shipping container which was used as an office.
They then allegedly tried to gain access to a ute parked in the car park, tried to force a lock off a motorbike and tried to attach a trailer to their silver Holden Commodore.
Three days later on May 13, Crawford allegedly attended an Alfredton address to steal a $60,500 Mazda CX9 from the garage.
Police allege he used the victim's bank card found in the vehicle to dishonestly obtain cigarettes and drinks worth $83.48 from BP Ballarat West.
The vehicle has not been recovered, the court was told.
Police opposed Crawford's bail application, saying they believed he would continue to offend.
Defence barrister Simon Bright said the prosecution case was weak, his client had an intellectual disability, he was suitable for the Court Integrated Services Program and he had his partner's support.
Magistrate Gregory Robinson said at the time of the alleged offending Crawford was on a court order for serious offending, including a carjacking and trafficking methamphetamine.
He said although the police case was based on circumstantial evidence, he considered the car wash facility incident serious.
Crawford's bail application was refused and he was remanded in custody until July 29.
Crawford has been charged with six offences relating to the incidents on May 10 and May 13, including attempted burglary, aggravated burglary, theft, trespass, car theft and dishonestly obtaining property.
