A pedestrian was almost hit after a major crash after dark, at one of the most notorious intersections for crashes in the Ballarat CBD.

Police, ambulance and the CFA were called to the corner of Sturt and Lyons streets at around 8.15pm on Wednesday night.
According to witnesses at the scene, the black sedan was travelling west on Sturt Street, while a white 4WD crossed over Lyons Street. A pedestrian was left shaken after being almost run over as a result of the cars leaving the road.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed that no-one was injured in the crash. Police are now investigating the circumstances around the crash.
A witness said a pedestrian was almost run over in the crash, with the Black BMW heading west on Sturt Street while the Suburu came through Lyons.
Ballarat City Fire Brigade senior station officer Shane Phillips said it was a "pretty big hit" which caused a lot of damage to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene.
The crash occurred while Ballarat police were attending at Victoria Park for the detonation of an improvised explosive device.
The intersection at Lyons and Sturt streets is one of the six most problematic crossovers in the CBD, where more than 135 crashes causing injury occurring over the last 10 years. Workers at the corner of Ascot and Sturt streets have told The Courier crashes are a "weekly occurrence".
Under new VicRoads plans, the corner of Lyons and Sturt streets will become double u-turn only intersections.
