Ballarat Christian College primary pupils were super-comfortable and had their furry friends at school this week for their teddy bear's picnic and pyjama day.

And their comfort was for a good cause - in support of the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal Winter Collection.
Instead of the usual gold-coin donation, the student representative council organised for families to donate winter necessities - beanies, jackets, scarves, gloves, and new socks - which will be given to local people in need of warm garments as the temperature plummets.

"The whole school gets behind it usually. We haven't seen how many donations we have yet, but last year we had bags and bags and bags of warm jackets and other garments," said head of primary Bianca Francica.
Representatives from the Salvation Army spoke at this week's school assembly, giving the young students an understanding of the needs of some members of the Ballarat community over winter, explaining why simple items like warm socks could make a big difference to someone who is struggling.
