Renowned jazz singer Beverley Sheehan will sing with Steve Waddell's Creole Bells Revival Band on Sunday at the Ballarat Golf Club, as part of the Ballarat Heritage Weekend.
Music runs in Sheehan's blood: she's the sister of Judith Durham, beloved member of The Seekers. The pair sung together at events, with a neighbour playing her Fats Waller's version of Ain't Misbehavin' at the age of 12.
"From that day, I just loved that sort of music. But I was fairly unusual, I didn't really sing in public until I was 30," she said.
Working in Melbourne, she "became a singing waitress, I'd put down my drinks tray and sung with the band".
Jazz became a full-time occupation, Sheehan juggled late nights of performing with waking up early to make school lunches, but said "with early jazz, the minute you hear it, you know its what you love".
