Only four points separates third and eighth on the competition ladder and Goodman is confident consistency will be the key to possible promotion at season's end.
"I think that the league has compressed in terms of quality," Goodman said.
"For us we've only ever focused on our own consistency - we know we can compete with any team in the competition."
Ensuring a victory over the higher placed Williamstown SC on Saturday afternoon would be big for the Vikings as it could potentially vault Sebastopol into a top-four position.
"For us (the game) is a case of going into their home with no fear and a chance to leapfrog them on the ladder. We know they're quite strong defensively so we're going to have to make the most of our opportunities."
The Vikings have had a lot of different players capitalise on their scoring opportunities so far this season. Goodman believes spreading the offensive load is an important aspect of his side's success going forward.
"One player can't be relied upon to carry the team... it has to be an across the board effort.
"Credit to the players, they've bought into what I've looked to instill in the club and have been creating chance after chance with the ball. In the end all it takes is for one player to compose themselves and put the ball in the back of the net."
Adrian Curtain leads the Vikings in goals so far this season, netting three goals in his four appearances.
Lalor United sit undefeated on top of the ladder after eight games but Goodman isn't concerned about their early season success.
"We're not worried about who's at the top of the table, for us it's about playing the right way letting the points take care of themselves."
