Neighbours were quick to assist the driver in his 70s who lost control while coming out of his driveway directly across the road.
Ballarat Sergeant Ian Gibson said the man has lost control of the vehicle, possibly accelerating, rather than breaking.

"Police are looking into what exactly happened to follow up," Sergeant Gibson said.
"It's unknown exactly what the damage is at the moment, but the council has been notified to look at that.
"He's pushed another car down in the driveway and damaged his own car in the house. There was a male and female home at the time they are uninjured, but obviously concerned about the damage to their house.
"It's more external damage at this stage, but we are waiting on the surveyor and we won't move the car until it gets here."
Neighbours The Courier spoke to said they had heard a large bang just after 10.30am, but did not realise what had happened until they saw flashing lights in the street.
They said they were thankful people had got away mostly unscathed.
The street just off Howitt Street is expected to be closed off to traffic for some time while emergency services look to stabilise the scene.
