Cardinal George Pell, who was born and raised in Ballarat, was convicted of the historical child sexual abuse of two teenage altar boys in December last year.
The verdict of the jury at the Melbourne County Court last year was not made public until February this year due to a ban on media coverage imposed by Chief Judge Peter Kidd.
On Wednesday his lawyers argued it was "impossible" that Pell could have committed the crimes and that the jury's verdicts were "unsafe and unsatisfactory".
You can read The Courier's full wrap of day one here and also read about Ballarat's initial reaction here.
Today, the court will hear from the prosecutors, as they argue why Pell's guilty verdict must stand.
Thursday's hearing will begin at 9.30am and it will be streamed here.
