Police allege the 31-year-old was killed in her Canadian home on February 17 and dumped 300 kilometres away from Ballarat at Nambrok, near Sale.
Her remains were located days later at that location.
Further remains of Ms Farrell's body were found in a bag under a bridge in Altona North in May.
Siblings Shaye Kotaiu, 22, and Kieahn Kotiau, 19, were charged over Ms Farrell's death.
They faced a committal mention at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Shaye appeared in court by video link, while his sister, Kieahn, sat in the front row of the court room with her supporters.
The court was told a doctor would assess Shaye to see if he would be mentally fit to stand trial.
Charge sheets obtained by The Courier states Kieahn concealed the body of Ms Farrell in her vehicle, assisted in the disposal of Ms Farrell's remains in Nambrok, including destruction of identification and evidence by fire and assisting in the secretion of evidentiary of items.
The court was told four lay witnesses, the police informant and a medical expert would give evidence at a committal hearing.
Kieahn faces one count of murder, while Shaye faces one count of being an accessory to murder.
The pair will return to court on October 29 for a contested committal hearing.
