Three of the performers - Quilby Nelson, Ilija Pantelich and Lachlan Reid - are finalists in the 2019 Youth Concerto Competition and were selected from a strong group of performers hoping for an opportunity to perform solos.

The fourth is pianist and composer Jack Stacey. The 21-year-old will perform his own composition 'Into the Storm' for the first time perform with a full orchestra.

He has been composing his own works since 2006, when he was just eight years old.

"I've taken a lot of my inspiration from many contemporary film works from famous composers like John Williams and Hans Zimmer,

"But I think the thing with this particular work is how you can have such a complexity to the score and be able to produce a very complex sound state which is very reactive and evolutionary in a sense."

Jack is currently studying music at tertiary level and composed the piece as part of his studies.

The June concert will also feature the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra playing popular works by Rossini and Marquez and will be performed at The Art Gallery of Ballarat on Sunday June 23 from 2.30pm

President Ballarat Symphony Orchestra Jessie Harman said the performance was a terrific opportunity for young performers to work along the best Ballarat has to offer.

" We are delighted to continue to support the development of young performers in our region" - Dr Harman said

"We are very grateful for the support we have received from the City of Ballarat through its Community Impact Grant program."

Principal conductor Gyula Cseszko said there would be outstanding talent performing.

Tickets are available for adults $35, concession $30, students $15 while under 12 is free and can be purchased from the Art Gallery of Ballarat or on the door.
