Meanwhile, the very intelligent canine who ran off from the scene, though blind, managed to sniff his way home, where he was later located uninjured, waiting at the back gate.
Update: The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was transported to Ballarat Base Hospital in a stable condition.
A witness who arrived just after the accident said the woman's small, blind, elderly dog fled from the scene.
The black dog is still wearing its lead and may possibly be injured too.
Earlier: A woman is being treated by paramedics after she was hit by a car earlier this morning.
The woman was struck on the corner of Victoria and Princes streets at Ballarat East just before 7am.
Paramedics are treating her for injuries to her pelvis.
Not much else is known at this stage.
