The Rebels commanded much of the footy early but couldn't seem to send anything through the middle posts, having to settle for one goal and seven behinds at half time.
Coach Mark Grieg said his side was lacking the composure on their forward entries and needed someone to step up and take a few key marks.
"The boys just couldn't take a mark down their," he said.
"If we had the player who could just rise and pull some of those down it would have been a big help today."
The Rebels couldn't close the gap their wayward kicking had created, ultimate losing 58-51.
Despite the loss, Grieg said he was pleased with the pressure his side showed.
"We spoke before the game about wanting an improved effort when it comes to pressure... our boys delivered on that today."
