Sunbury's Lauren Gilchrist has celebrated her 350th game with a 12-goal win over Ballarat in the Ballarat Football Netball League.
A light drizzle made for slippery conditions for both teams at Clarke Oval on Saturday.
Sunbury coach Adam Boldiston praised the efforts of his players, who overcome a Ballarat team which was riding a two-game winning streak.
"It was like an ice skating rink on Saturday," he said.
"The court at Sunbury is so slippery and that didn't allow either team to play to their potential, but it was still a good game and we had to fight it out for all four quarters."
An aggressive start by Sunbury saw it go ahead early in the match. However poor weather made it difficult for the Lions to build on the lead, as Ballarat chipped away at the margin on the back of stellar shooting by Rachel Grawich and Lydia Jordan.
But the Lions rallied after the break, widening the gap in the third quarter to take a nine-goal lead heading into the final term.
A spirited last quarter saw the Swans come within four goals of the Lions, which briefly opened the door for an upset.
But Sunbury's experience prevailed as they went on to clinch match 59-47.
Boldiston said his team's ability to throw different defensive setups at Ballarat helped yield a home victory.
"We managed to create turnovers before it got to the circle edge where they could find their shooters," he said.
"Their shooters shot the lights out from distance, so it was a matter of creating mid-court turnovers."
Boldiston said a desire to play well for 350-gamer Gilchrist provided extra motivation for the squad prior to the match. He also praised goal-shooter Amanda Cusack who enjoyed a return to form after converting 43 from 51 goal attempts.
Elsewhere North Ballarat City have defeated Melton 69-43 at McPherson Park. Redan lost by 10 goals to Melton South.
Bacchus Marsh edged out Sebastopol by 11 goals at Marty Busch Reserve, while Lake Wendouree thumped Darley.

With seven rounds remaining in the Central Highlands Netball League A-grade competition, the race for the final few finals spots is heating up.
It was a weekend of lop-sided results in round 10, with the closest contest being decided by a 19 goal margin as the Roos picked up an important win over Carngham-Linton.
Gordon and Waubra currently sit in the seventh and eighth spot on the ladder respectively with five wins each after the Roos' aforementioned win and the Eagles loss.
Dunnstown, Carngham-Lionton, Bungaree and Skipton occupy the next four spots, all having registered four wins to date this season.
Looking towards the top of the ladder, each of the top six teams registered victories at the weekend to further solidify their spots as they push into the last third of the season.
The Lakies put together another dominant showing to remain undefeated, flattening the Demons on the road 77-34.
Learmonth will have their hands full trying to remain undefeated over the final seven weeks of the competition, as they are still yet to face Hepburn, Buninyong and Springbank, who hold the second, third and fourth spots on the ladder.
