SEBASTOPOL v BACCHUS MARSH
Sebastopol continued its impressive patch of form with a comprehensive 52-point victory over Bacchus Marsh in the Ballarat Football League at Marty Busch Reserve on Saturday.
The Kookaburras, which now have four wins on end, broke clear midway through the second term and from that point forward were never threatened.
Key forward Michael Powell (five goals) and ruckman/forward Toby Thoolen were major contributors in Sebastopol's most influential performamce of the season.
Thoolen was superb against the highly rated Burton - quelling the influence of Bacchus Marsh playmaker - and giving his midfielders first use of the ball at the contest.
Brett Goodes and James Keeble (four goals) were other leading lights and making it a dirty day for Cobras, which had won four on end.
Bacchus Marsh coach Peter Davey: "We were probably a little bit spiritless, which is a huge knock on this group because I think we play with a lot of spirit.
"So to not have that today was very disappointing," he said.
"We probably had our chances early. We probably could have kicked a couple of goals and then they owned the next 15 minutes. Scoreboard pressure is a big thing and we just didn't get that at any stage, didn't get back-to-back goals.
"It was just a real flat-liner of a day," Davey said.
In contrast to the Bacchus Marsh camp, Sebastopol coach Leigh Hutchinson was rapt with his sides consistent effort.
"Across every line we were terrific, and it was the classic four-quarter effort.
"There was a period in the second quarter where they started to run the ball and we just let it happen, but then we refocused and we were able to stay in the game," he said.
Sebastopol's Lachie Casside finished the day bench after suffering a blow to the chest.
Sebastopol 3.5, 6.9, 9.13, 14.15 (99)
Bacchus Marsh 3.1, 4.4, 4.7, 6.11 (47)
GOALS - Sebastopol: Michael Powell 5, James Keeble 4, Brett Goodes 2, Tom Petersen 1, Tobias Thoolen 1, Bradley Weightman 1. Bacchus Marsh: Ryley Stuhldreier 1, Billy Griffiths 1, Jack Lalor 1, Jake Owen 1, Aaron Willitts 1, Harrison King 1

MELTON v NORTH BALLARAT CITY
Melton reinforced the struggle North Ballarat City is going through with a runaway 73-point victory at MacPherson Park on Saturday.
And North's injury woes became even worse with key defender Ryan Luke facing the likelihood of being sidelined.
Coach Shane Skontra said Luke had been struggling for sometime and after pulling up even more sore than usual it was a possibility he might have to be rested.
North Ballarat put in a spirited first half, with the scoreline of Melton's 8.1 to 2.4 not indicating the opportunities it had.
Melton coach Aaron Tymms said he did not feel there was a lot between the sides in general play, but the Bloods' better conversion in attack had been the difference.
The second half was a much different scenario with Melton shutting City down - allowing the visitors to add just 1.6.
Tymms said he was pleased with the defensive effort, which had been a specific focus.
The performance blanketed out the demons of Melton's loss to Lake Wendouree the previous week - essential to keep the Bloods' a game clear inside the top six.
Ben Archard showed his best form since returning from a hamstring injury - relishing getting back the number one ruck spot after spending a few weeks on a wing.
Regular midfielder Shaun Campbell played predominantly forward for a return of five goals.
While North Ballarat faces a huge task to get back into finals contention, Skontra is certainly ruling it out as he continues to be enocuraged by the efforts of youngsters being blooded in the absence of big names such as Daniel Jones, Will Young, Ben Simpson and Tim Speirs.
He said the run home was not as challenging as it had the potential to be - City faces Melton South and Ballarat twice each, and Lake Wendouree - and if it could get a run going anything might happen.
North Ballarat City is home to Melton South next round and Melton hits the road to play Ballarat at Alfredton.
Melton 3.0, 8.1, 13.2, 16.5 (101)
North Ballarat City 1.3, 2.4, 2.8, 3.10 (28)
GOALS - Melton: Shaun Campbell 5, Mark Orr 3, Liam Carter 2, Jack Walker 2, Connor Griffiths 1, Matt Denham 1, Dyson Stevens 1, Luke Heaney 1. North Ballarat City: Ryan Luke 1, Mitchell Gilbert 1, Samuel Scally 1

REDAN v MELTON SOUTH
Top side Redan overcame a flat start to defeat an injury-riddled Melton South by 75 points at the City Oval on Saturday.
This keeps the Lions one game clear on top from East Point, which had a bye, and Darley.
As big as the final margin was, Redan coach Jarrett Giampaolo said not for the first time this season the Lions had taken a while to get going, with the Panthers taking the game right up to them early.
Melton South had the better of the first quarter and led well into the second term before Redan began to impose itself.
Giampaolo singled out captain Liam Hoy as the stand-out player for the Lions, producing a fine leader's game after being one player who was up and running from the outset when they were generally lack-lustre.
He said there was no doubt the Lions had made been able to make the most of Melton South running out of legs late.
Redan booted right away with six goals in the last quarter.
Lachie George spent significant time as a permanent forward and returned six goals.
Melton South coach Heath Pritchard was encouraged by the way the Panthers took on the game, but conceded being effectively down to one interchange rotation had taken a toll.
He said forcing second efforts at stoppages had been one area of improvement.
Pritchard said he had no doubt Redan been surprised by Melton South in the formative stages of the contest.
"I can't fault our effort and attitude."
He said the biggest frustration for the Panthers was a run of injuries to key players.
Pritchard said in the three rounds since defeating Lake Wendouree they had had between six and seven changes each week - stifling any chance of building momentum.
Captain Brody Sullivan (hamstring), star recuit Paul Bower (hamstring) and in-form Daniel Leggett (hand) were missing on Saturday, and then Dillon Sharp (thumb), Jake Charge (arm/wrist), Matthew Sullivan )knee) and Matt Notman were all sidelined during the game.
Melton South meets North Ballarat City at Mars Stadium next round and Redan faces Darley at Darley.
Redan 2.6, 7.13, 11.20, 17.26 (128)
Melton South 3.2, 4.3, 6.5, 8.5 (53)

SUNBURY v BALLARAT
Sunbury's Landt family had a day to remember at Clarke Oval on Saturday.
Brock Landt moved up from the under-19s to make his senior debut alongside his brothers Jack and Dylan.
To cap if off, Jack booted six goals and Dylan four as the Lions downed the still winless Ballarat by 44 points.
The Swans drew within 17 points early in the last term, but were unable to maintain the momentum and pose a bigger threat.
In the end it took a couple of late goals from Ballarat to stop a complete blow-out.
Ballarat coach Joe Carmody said once again lapses at crucial times had been costly.
Sunbury grabbed the ascendary in the first quarter with four goals while the Swans failed to score.
Making up for what was a slow start on the scoreboard proved too much.
Carmody said turnovers had hurt, with Sunbury making the most of set shots on goal which resulted from mistakes.
Already with several prominent players out injured, consistent defender Mitch Martin injured a hamstring in a tackle and faces an extended time out of the game.
In a better outcome, Nick Weightman pulled up well in his first game back after a strained hamstring.
Mitch Conn was a big performer for Sunbury, dictating terms in an attacking game from half back.
Sunbury 4.0, 8.1, 9.5, 16.8 (104)
Ballarat 0.0, 4.4, 5.4, 9.6 (60)
GOALS - Sunbury: Jack Landt 6, Dylan Landt 4, Leigh Brennan 2, Harry Power 1, Jack Sheahan 1, Alec Goodson 1, Alik Magin 1. Ballarat: Andrew Hooper 4, Bailey Fraser 2, Lachy Dawson 1, Daniel Kennedy 1, Tyler Constable 1
BEST - Sunbury: Gregory Hay, Mitchell Conn, Grant Valles, Jack Landt, Alik Magin, Liam Berry. Ballarat: Daniel Kennedy, Marcus Powling, Andrew Hooper, Lachy Dawson, Bailey Van de Heuvel, Taylor Sutton
DARLEY v LAKE WENDOUREE
Darley returned after from a bye with an emphatic 53-point win over Lake Wendouree at Darley Park on Saturday.
For Lakers, they were unable to reproduce the same flow which a week earlier had enabled them to upset Melton.
Darley went about it in a workman-like fashion, kicking away to a 28-point led in the first half.
Lake Wendouree did reverse the trend for a while after the break.
Lakers are not always at their best in the third quarter, but on this occasion they were able to match it with Darley - marginally out-scoring the home combination.
That all changed again in the last stanza though with Devils adding five goals while Lake Wendouree faded.
This keeps Darley firmly in the top three, but makes it extremely difficult for Lakers to make finals although just six premiership points outside the top six with plenty of games to come.
Lake Wendouree now has a well-earned break for a bye and Darley is home to top side Redan in a blockbuster.
Darley 5.2, 7.6, 8.9, 13.14 (92)
Lake Wendouree 2.1, 3.3, 5.5, 5.9 (39)
GOALS - Darley: Harley Inglis 2, Mark Hanson 2, Casey Young 2, Jake Edwards 2, Jake Ancrum 1, Jackson Carrick 1, Brian Graham 1, Bailey Waasdorp 1, Khyle Forde 1. Lake Wendouree: Bailey Edwards 1, Jacob Lohmann 1, Callum McKay 1, Jacob Coxall 1, Nathan Pring 1
BEST - Darley: Nicholas Graham, Bailey Waasdorp, Trent Angwin, Brian Graham, Jake Edwards, Lachlan Herring. Lake Wendouree: Jacob Coxall, Ben Taylor, Jack Elkington, Bailey Edwards, Shane Hutchinson, Joshua Bibby
