A late goal from City's Lachlan Wright shortened a two-goal deficit to one in the final stages of the match. But it was too little, too late in the end as the Ranges held on to win the match 3-2.
Coach James Robinson expressed disappointment for his players after the match, saying the team could've done more to limit opposition chances.
"I felt there were two goals we could've nullified because we controlled the majority of the second half," he said.
"They were on the back foot but they managed to punish us."
Robinson heaped praise on 17-year-old Wright who altered the game in City's favor after entering the contest 15 minutes into the second-half.
"He's been biding his time, he's had quite a few games now. He's got a good football mind, he's adaptable in the way he plays and he's a natural goal-scorer," Robinson said.
