Roos coach Matt James said Lukich had sustained only a partial dislocation of his ankle on Saturday in the battle with Carngham-Linton and that no broken bones were detected in the initial scans.
He said Lukich would possibly have an MRI scan later this week and hoped he would be able to make a comeback in time for the opening weekend of finals.
James said Lukich, a former player with the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL, was a professional when it came to managing his body and believed he would give himself a great chance of returning to the field in 2019.
The ankle injury had the Central Highlands Football League talking over the weekend with Lukich clearly one of the competition's most damaging players.
It's widely expected that Lukich will be high up on the Geoff Taylor Medal leaderboard after 10 rounds, if not leading the way.
He has mixed roles in the midfield and up forward in season 2019 and been a major source of goals for the unbeaten Waubra.
Lukich was officially credited with 10 majors on Saturday (James says he booted 11 and a mistake was made when uploading scores) to lift his season tally to 46. This has him third behind Newlyn spearhead Marcus Darmody on the league goal-kicking chart.
Waubra is 12 points clear at the top of the ladder but still has a number of tough assignments in the run home to finals.
The Roos have the bye this coming weekend before games against Skipton, Bungaree, Springbank, Newlyn, Buninyong and Gordon.
