Racing Victoria said parts of the turf track underwent renovation during the construction of the new Ballarat synthetic track and as a result sections are wetter than other parts of the course.

Sunday's scheduled meeting has been switched from Ballarat's turf to its synthetic track while the meeting scheduled for July 14 has been moved to Bendigo's turf track.

This comes after meetings in May and June were switched from the turf to the synthetic track while another meeting on June 16 was transferred to Echuca on turf.

Some have questioned why some races where transferred away from Ballarat when the synthetic track is in operation.

Ballarat Turf Club CEO Lachlan McKenzie explained that where possible, turf races will be moved to suitable turf tracks.

"Quite simply they're two different surfaces and where possible the industry will always try to replace turf meetings with turf venues," he said.

Likening it to tennis, McKenzie said moving all races from turf tracks to synthetic create an unfair playing field.

"It's like playing tennis on clay and playing on grass... if you've prepared a horse to race here on the turf and it likes heavy, wet tracks and the meet is moved to a synthetic course, those trainers and horses are at a significant disadvantage."

McKenzie said he would not stand against Racing Victoria's to move multiple races away from Ballarat.

"As a club we're quite happy to run races on the synthetic where it suits but we fully endorse the decision to move races if there is a turf track available."
