Lamb numbers decreased slightly to 13,239, while sheep numbers decreased to 3051 head. Quality varied from average to good, with most of the usual buying group operating in a dearer market, with lambs making from $5 to $15/head stronger and more in places.
Lambs at times in most categories sold above 1,000c/kg. Several pens of extra heavy lambs sold to $354, a centre and state record, and there were eight pens that sold above $340/head.
Feeders and restockers paid from $146 to $212, with the lighter lots receiving from $40 to $130/head. Light weight 2 score lambs weighing 12-18kg sold from $115 to $206/head.
Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs weighing 18-22kg made from $146 to $228/head to average approximately 975c/kg cwt.
Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs weighing 22-24kg sold from $193 to $245/head, varying from 830c to 1,030c to average 960c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 to 4 score trade weight lambs weighing 24-26kg sold from $250 to $266/head to average close to 980c/kg cwt. Export lambs weighing 26-30kg sold from $260 to $320/head.
Extra heavy export lambs 30kg plus made from $295 to $354/head. Hoggets sold from $166 to $248 for crossbreds, with Merinos making to $120/head.
The sheep penning covered all weights, with sheep primarily selling to a dearer trend.
Larger numbers of plainer lighter sheep were yarded.
Heavy Merino wethers sold to $209/head. Crossbred ewes made to $240/head. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $75 to $114 to average 550c/kg, with very light 1 scores making from $45 to $85/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $98 to $170/head, varying from 500c to 700c, with Merino mutton averaging approximately 600c/kg cwt.
Heavy Merino ewes sold from $150 to $186/head, as heavy Merino wethers sold to $209, while medium weights made from $100 to $178/head. Heavy Merino sheep received from 615c to 765c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 4 score crossbred sheep sold from $121 to $240/head to average 610c/kg cwt. Rams made from $30 to $167/head. Heavy crossbred wethers sold from $142 to $208/head.

Cattle numbers lifted, with 158 head yarded at Ballarat, cows making up 50 per cent of the yarding. The usual buying group attended and operated in a firm to dearer market. The quality was mixed, with several pens of well presented young cattle.
Vealers and yearlings sold a few cents dearer, making to 280c/kg.
Grown steers sold keenly, reaching 290c, as grown heifers improved to 10c in places, reaching 278c/kg. Cows sold well again this week, improving to 10c in places, with the better covered cows making to 247c/kg.
Numbers comprised 79 cows, 30 steers, 41 heifers, 10 bulls and a few pens of open auction young cattle.
Vealers and yearling sold to the trade from 230c to 280c, with restockers and feeders paying from 230c to 270c and from 80c to 150c/kg for the lighter plainer types.
Grown heifers sold to the trade from 236c to 278c for C muscle types and to 190c/kg for D muscle types.
Restockers and feeders paid from 180c to 268c/kg. Heavy C muscle cows sold from 216c to 247c, as D muscle 3 and 4 score cows received from 211c to 234c and from 166c to 198c/kg for 2 score cows.
Medium weight 2 and 3 score cows sold from 167c to 212c, as D1 cows made from 171c to 199c/kg. Light D1 cows received from 132c to 160c, as E1 types sold from 100c to 140c/kg.
Heavy beef bulls made from 205c to 207c, as vealer bulls sold to 276c and restockers paid from 208c to 255c/kg.
