A severe weather warning has been issued by the meteorology, as wild weather bears down upon us.
Wind gusts of up to 100km/h are expected to hit parts of Victoria as a cold front moves through on Wednesday.
The Bureau has issued a damaging wind warning for most of western Victoria, including Ballarat.
Winds are expected to average 60-70 km/h with gusts of up to 100km/h in high country above 800 metres.
We could also see gusts up to 90km/h in Ballarat, with thunderstorms also possible.
Rain is likely to fall every day for at least the next week, meaning it could be a while before we see the sun again.
The front is forecast to move to the far east of Victoria by dawn on Thursday, then out to the Tasman Sea. Damaging winds are expected to gradually ease and contract to coastal parts following the passage of the front.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines;
