With leading players in the award not having an opportunity to add to their tallies, Cassidy earned five votes for his best-on-ground display against Redan at the City Oval on Saturday.
He is now joint second with Bacchus Marsh ruckman Daniel Burton on 22 - two votes behind leader Liam Hoy.
Hoy was unavailable for Redan at the weekend, while Burton was serving a one-match suspension.
Cassidy has jumped ahead of Alik Magin (Sunbury) 21, Orren Stephenson (Redan) 19 and Lachie Bramble (Sunbury) 18.
Magin and Bramble had a break with Sunbury having a bye, while Stephenson is still out with injury.
Cassidy's teammate Tony Lockyer has also moved up the leaderboard.
He received two votes to go to 19.
Cassidy had been judged best-on-the-ground three times and polled in six games.
Lockyer has also received votes in six rounds, which make up an unbroken sequence since round six.
