And in another dramatic finish, Sebastopol put Melton in the hot seat with a one-point win at Marty Busch Reserve.
Skipper Liam Hoy was the last-kick hero for an inaccurate Redan, which finished with 7.22.
It was cruel end for Bacchus Marsh, which led for a large part of the day and with not that long to go had a nine-point break.
Sebastopol scrambled home the winning behind in a tense 34-minute last quarter to thwart a brave Melton comeback.
The Burra kicked four goals in the opening 13 minutes of the day, but could manage only another two for the match as Melton worked its way back into the game.
Shaun Campbell levelled the scores with a goal on 22 minutes in last quarter, but that was be the Bloods' last score in a desperate scramble to the line.
In the other big result of round 12, Sunbury maintained its perfect record at home by dispensing of reigning premier and top side East Point by 16 points.
Jarrah Maksymow quickly repaid the faith Sunbury had shown in him with the opening three goals for the Lions and an early lead they would hold for the duration of the match.
With Redan getting home and Sunbury beating the Roos, there are now three teams on 36 points at the helm - East Point on percentage from Darley (which had a bye) and Redan.
They are one game ahead of Sebastopol and Sunbury, which are a win ahead of Melton, which falls one spot to sixth.
Bacchus Marsh remains one win outside the top six.
In a turn around, North Ballarat City now remarkably also finds itself only four premiership points outside the top six.
North made its three wins on against Lake Wendouree at CE Brown Reserve - thumping the home side by 50 points.
Ballarat moved clear of the bottom with a 25-point win over Melton South at Melton Recreation Reserve.
It was just the Swans' second win of the season.
