While The Mallow's weekly trivia night usually brings out Ballarat's brightest, a special Christmas in July fundraiser night helped support a valuable Berry Street program.

The pub matched donations across the night dollar for dollar, and the seasonal good cheer and friendly competition (with Christmas-themed questions from quizmaster Drew Graham) raised more than $1200 just from passing a stocking around the tables at the packed venue.
That money will contribute to Berry Street's Caring Dads program, which supports men to improve their relationships with their children.
Berry Street Ballarat's acting senior manager across family violence, Nicole McCarty, said it was a generous offer from The Mallow.
"They instigated it all, it was really fantastic," she said, thanking The Mallow's staff for approaching them.
"Berry Street funds this program - we don't ask a lot from the community, we give to the community."
The Mallow's Anthony Perovic said Berry Street's compassion for the community is something the city should be proud of.
"It was an absolute privilege to have some of the Berry Street team in our venue for the night," he said.
"We want them to know that their work doesn't go unnoticed and we are grateful for the voice they provide for our vulnerable."
Berry Street plays a major role in Ballarat - as well as community programs like Caring Dads and counselling, it's involved in foster and kinship care for children in crisis situations, and supports women and children affected by family violence.
The Berry Street school in Sebastopol opened in 2017, helping young people re-engage with education and find new pathways into employment.
