POLICE have confirmed the man who died after falling from a roof in Ballarat on Sunday morning was a 19-year-old from Lucas.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Professional Standards Command is overseeing the investigation, as police were at the scene when the death occurred. It was reiterated this was standard procedure.
EARLIER:
POLICE are investigating the death of a man who fell from a roof in Camp Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police had responded to reports of a break-in on a Camp Street building about 2.15am.
A search of the building was undertaken but police could not locate anyone.
Police exited the building before noticing a man on the roof.
He was informed to come down by officers, before falling off the roof.
The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died a short time later.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
Witnesses to The Courier said Camp Street was blocked off from Field Street to Sturt Street until just before 12pm on Sunday afternoon. Footpaths on the west side of Camp Street, next to Federation University's campus, remain closed.
In a statement, police said the investigation would be overseen by Professional Standards Command as per standard procedure.
