More than 80 enthusiastic volunteers got dirty for a major tree planting operation with the Friends of the Canadian Corridor (FoCC) on Sunday.
The area at Woowookarung Regional Park was previously covered in bluegums and pine plantations. But the trees planted over the weekend will now create a corridor for koalas to roam between re-vegetated land.
FoCC secretary Jeff Rootes said many volunteers lived nearby and the event was creating community "ownership of the park".
"Sometimes you end up with the usual suspects, but now we're tapping into whole new groups of people and young families," he said. "This has been a lost area, but it's really interesting country on the edge of Ballarat."
