As the Ballarat Miners gear-up to play its final games at the Minerdome over the coming weeks, the city of Ballarat is getting ready to usher in a new age of basketball.
Participation rates have never been higher, and interest in the game both at a local and professional level are as healthy as they have ever been.
And with a $24 million multi-purpose indoor sports facility now open, not to mention the possibility of the first Miners championship in 18 years, the stage is set for a new golden age of basketball in Ballarat.
To commemorate the shift, The Courier will conduct a series of sit-down interviews with some of the game's local personalities.
For the second episode of the series, The Courier sits down with Ballarat basketball great Ray Borner.
After spending 22 years in the National Basketball League, Borner returned to Ballarat to lead the Ballarat Miners to a championship in 2001.
He played in what many consider to be the 'golden era' of Australian basketball and upon his return, boasted a resume which included four Olympic Games appearances and an NBL MVP award.
But his journey didn't end there as you are about to find out in the video below.
