The classic story of an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically living in each others' skin has been made popular by the likes of Jodie Foster (1976) then Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis (2003).

It was rebooted last year for a musical adaptation on Disney Channel. Mount Clear College music and drama production coordinator Prudence Faravoni said was quick to pick it up for family-friendly fun in the school's annual theatre performance.

Lead performers Macy Mather (Katherine, the mum who becomes daughter Ellie) and the ordyn Hatfield said it was an exciting opportunity to be the first in Australia to put the show on stage.
Ms Hatfield said the premise of the story was easy for people to relate to and this was why the story could be evolved for new generations.
"The mother-daughter relationship is a big, pivotal point of the show. Those issues never go out of style," Ms Hatfield said. "It's exciting to give (Ballarat) the first impression of the show."
Ms Mather said the musical has prompted her to consider some things from her mum's point-of-view a little more - even as a reminder that her mum was once a teenager too.
"It's fun but the music goes so much deeper that that too and our band is so phenomenal at helping get that across," Ms Mather said.
Freaky Friday is based on the novel by Mary Rodgers. About 40 Mount Clear college students have been involved in the production on stage, in the band or in set design and technical elements.
Freaky Friday opens on Friday night in Mount Clear College's Gay E Gough Theatre. Opening night will feature pre-show canapes and mocktails from the school's VET hospitality students.
The show will also take to the stage on Saturday for a matinee and evening performance.
