Numbers eased to 89 head yarded at Ballarat.
Most of the usual buying group attended and operated in a mostly firm to slightly dearer market in places. Quality was mixed, with the well covered grown heifers holding firm on last week to sell to 288c, while better quality cows sold to 276c, averaging 10c/kg more in places.
Numbers consisted of 37 cows, 16 steers, 27 heifers, 9 bulls and some open auction young cattle. Vealers and yearlings sold to the trade from 184c to 222c/kg. Vealers sold to feeders and restockers from 147c to 202c, while yearlings sold to feeders and restockers from 100c to 272c/kg.
Grown heifers sold to the trade from 208c to 288c for C muscle types and to 191c/kg for lighter D muscle types. Feeders and restockers paid from 184c to 277c/kg. Heavy C muscle cows sold to the trade from 210c to 246c, while medium weight 2 score cows sold from 162c to 222c/kg. Lighter E1 score cows sold to 148c, while restockers bought heavy beef cows from 184c to 276c/kg. Heavy beef bulls sold to 200c/kg.

Lamb supply was back at 10,870 head in a mixed offering at Ballarat.
Not all the usual buying group attended or operated fully. Heavy lambs were limited with the quality trade weight lambs selling at time close to last weeks levels with demand from the local processes, the plainer types eased $5 to $10/head and more in places.
Light weight Merino lambs sold from $128 to $138 with the heavier drafts sold from $169 to $180/head. Restockers and feeders paid from $125 to $167 for lambs and from $45 to $82/head for the lighter lots.
Light weight 2 score lambs 12kg to 18kg sold from $100 to $160/head. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs 18kg to 22kg sold from $150 to $216/head to average 900c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs 22kg to 24kg sold from $187.50 to $260/head, ranging from 815c to 1070c to average 960c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 4 score trade weight lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $230 to $258/head to average around 980c/kg cwt. Export lambs 26kg to 30kg sold from $225 to $265/head.
Hoggets sold from $110 to $258 for crossbreds and Merinos sold to $179/head.
Sheep numbers were also back at 3657, the better covered sheep sold close to last weeks levels. Sheep generally selling $5 to $10/head easier and more on heavier crossbred sheep. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $50 to $102 to average 500c/kg cwt with very light 1 score making from $60 to $76/head.
Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $89 to $136/head ranging from 420c to 580c with Merino mutton averaging around 540c/kg cwt.
Heavy Merino ewes sold from $138 to $167/head. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $145 to $181, while medium weights sold from $122 to $143/head. Heavy Merino sheep ranged from 575c to 615c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 5 score crossbred sheep sold from $122 to $205/head to average 500c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $84 to $175/head.

Sheep numbers from Victoria rose by just over 1000 head last week to see 3644 sheep and lambs offered and clearance rates in Victoria reach 83 per cent.
Victoria continues to be a major force in the online market purchasing just under 11,000 (30pc) of sheep and lambs offered.
First-cross ewes from Victoria were topped by a line of 12 to 13-month-old scanned in-lamb ewe hoggets from Munro selling for $270. SIL Merino offered from Victoria drew strong demand seeing an average price of $226 and were topped by a mob of 23 to 24-month-old hoggets from Almonds selling for $232.
New season store lambs continue sell for well over the 1000c/kg cwt price. A line of 26kg April/May '19 second-cross Poll Dorset mixed sex lambs from Violet Town sold for $142. A line of 28kg Jan/Feb '19 drop second-cross Poll Dorset mixed sex lambs from Dingwall sold for $140. Woolgrower wethers were topped by a line of July/Aug '18 drop 40kg lambs from Longwood, selling for $133.
CATTLE
Cattle numbers from Victoria continued to dwindle online last week, seeing 157 head offered.
Young weaner cattle dominated the listings last week as spikes in the cattle market have seen many producers offload stock. A limited offering of cows with calves at foot saw SA buyers source stock from NSW and Victoria.
The top price lot was a line of Maree West and Ennerdale blood Hereford heifers with Angus calves at foot from Heywood which sold for $1900 to a buyer in SA.
Hereford/Angus steers 370kg from Corryong sold for 326c/kg and 293kg Angus steers from Lurg sold for 379c/kg. Steers 280-330kg made from 272 to 379c/kg nationally, to average 329c/kg, up 6c/kg.
