The harness racing community is rallying behind drought-affected farmers in northern Australia with the month-long fundraising campaign, including a special-themed race meet later this month.

The club's Rebecca Bell said the ripple effects of drought were felt through the racing community both in empathy and the shared need to feed horses and livestock to produce sourced for the club's dining venues.

BDTC aims to raise about $4000 this month for Rural Aid's Buy a Bale.

Ms Bell said the club hoped to sell out the Terrace Restaurant for the August 22 race meet with $10 for every dining ticket to support the campaign. Race-goers are encouraged to iron out their jeans and plaid shirts to be in the running for best-dressed farmer.

Meanwhile, for every parmigiana sold in Flying Horse Bistro during August, $1 will be donated directed to the cause and will also be matched by the club.
