While some snow was seen across the region on Saturday, mostly in high altitude towns such as Daylesford, Trentham and Bullarto, Sunday morning's large dump not only covered mountains such as Warrenheip and Buninyong, but also saw a large snowfall land in Ballarat itself.
The SES said in the 24 hours to 12pm it had received 74 calls for assistance across the western region.
These included 43 for trees down causing road hazards, 12 for fallen trees and five for building damage.
Police also closed off a number of roads throughout the day including the Trentham Daylesford Road between Lyonville and Bullarto, but generally people drove to the conditions with only a few minor accidents reported.
Incredibly over the weekend, the official temperature never dropped below zero, however the `feels like' temperature was as low as -4.9 just before 5am on Sunday morning.
The weather is expected to moderate throughout the week with today's forecast for nine degrees before tops of 11 and 12 for the remainder of the week.
