Chloe* had finished work in Daylesford and was driving home on the Ballan-Daylesford Road about 10.30pm last Tuesday night when she saw something shine through the bushes on the opposite side of the road as she was passing through Bunding.

As she drove past she saw it was a car backed into the bushes about five metres from the road.

"I didn't take notice but thought it was weird because if it had broken down it wouldn't have been parked like that. It looked like it had reversed in," she said.

After she had travelled a short distance up the road, Chloe said the car, a grey coloured Ford sedan with black roof racks, suddenly appeared behind her.

"It came out of nowhere and I thought maybe it was the highway patrol. But then it started flashing its high beams at me," she said. "I thought maybe it was the police so I slowed down. Then it came right up to me and hit the back of my car."

"At that point I freaked out, locked the doors and sped up. I got to 110-kilometres per hour but it was still right behind me. At that stage I was crying and screaming."

Chloe said she continued to speed up and was trying to get away for fear that the car would hit her again but it continued to speed up behind her.

"Then it came flying up next to me in the other lane. We were doing 160km per hour and it started swerving into my car. I was driving on the gravel trying to get away and he was pushing me off the road trying to swerve into me," she said.

"I was crying and was so terrified. It was going on for a few minutes and all of a sudden I saw headlights from another car coming up the opposite side of the road."

Chloe said when the other car approached, the car swerved back into the left lane, slammed on the brakes and turned its lights off.

Still fuelled with adrenaline after the incident, which she believes went on for about five minutes, she sped to the freeway where she felt safe enough to pull over, turn her car off and call the police.

Chloe was forced to take stress leave from work as she was too scared to drive.

"I just want to get the word out there because I never want it to happen to anyone else. The feeling that you're going to die is so traumatic.

"It was a very traumatic experience. I drive this road to work every single day and I've never seen anything like this. I'm also scared for my co-workers who drive this road every day too."

Chloe said she was afraid that she would wake up the following morning to discover that the other driver who had appeared on the road had been killed.
