Below, he details who is the most likely to win the flag (good news for Newlyn supporters), as well as who might struggle.
1 NEWLYN (Sportsbet odds $2.80)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: The Cats have got a superstar goal-kicker in Marcus Darmody and the class in Sewell brothers Myles and Adam, Steve Clifton and Dan Wehrung to get the ball to him.
WHY THEY CAN'T: Could be seen to be too reliant on Darmody to kick a winning score. If he goes down or is shut out of the match, who steps up in attack?
2 BUNINYONG ($3.50)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: A cracking senior list with strength right across the ground and multiple avenues to goal. Very few major injury concerns is another positive at this time of year.
WHY THEY CAN'T: The Bombers have been in great positions throughout the last decade but have been unable to get the job done when it matters.
3 WAUBRA ($3.50)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: Went very close last campaign and appear to have a stronger side on paper in 2019. The addition of some experience to a young list was handy in the off-season.
WHY THEY CAN'T: The Roos' last three tests against premiership contenders have all resulted in defeats. This is a worrying sign for a team heading into finals.
4 GORDON ($4)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: The Eagles have thrashed premiership contenders Buninyong and Waubra this season and hit finals on the back of eight successive wins.
WHY THEY CAN'T: A portion of the Eagles' senior side has been trying for many years to win the flag but has fallen short.
5 BEAUFORT ($6)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: The reigning premiers know what it takes to lift the cup and have hit some nice form at the back end of the campaign.
WHY THEY CAN'T: Missing a handful of key contributors from last season's grand final triumph.
6 HEPBURN ($12)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: Top-end quality as good as any team in the competition, including a powerhouse forward in Sam Dunstan.
WHY THEY CAN'T: The Burras have only beaten one top four rival this season.
7 SPRINGBANK ($4)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: Class across all lines and have matched it with all of the finals contenders in meetings throughout the year.
WHY THEY CAN'T: Injuries to top players Billy Driscoll and Jono O'Brien have hit at the wrong time, while there is a question mark over the Tigers' bottom-end talent.
8 SKIPTON ($21)
WHY THEY CAN WIN IT: Looks highly unlikely, but you've got to be in it to win it!
WHY THEY CAN'T: Injuries to key players have come at a bad time and the Emus have failed to beat a finals contender this year.
